Local police chief DSP Johari Jahaya reported that a search team discovered a body in a river close to the Juara Turtle Project at around 1:30pm on Wednesday afternoon (6:30am BST).
The body has not yet been identified.
Morni Mamat, deputy director of the Pahang state fire and rescue department, told Bernama that a forensics unit from the Pahang Police Contingent HQ is examining the body today.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “Foreign Office consulate staff on the ground are continuing to work closely with Malaysian authorities and are investigating with them as a matter of urgency.
“We continue to provide support to the family of Gareth Huntley at this very difficult time.”
