But the shy 19-year-old’s crime of passion is now making headlines all around the globe as he just happens to share the same name as Hollywood heart-throb Bradley Cooper – voted ‘sexiest man alive’ by People magazine in 2011.

Cooper swiped the £4.50 Durex ‘Little Devil’ vibrator – designed to enhance sexual sensation for women when worn by a man – when he realised all the cashiers at his local Tesco store in Cannock, Staffordshire, were women. He then legged it when challenged by security guards, who called the police.

Zoe Speake, prosecuting, told Cannock magistrates: “When Mr Cooper was stopped at the exit of the store he ran off across the car park.”

Serena Joshi, defending, explained: “Mr Cooper had the money for the item but was simply too embarrassed to pay for it.”

The youngster – who also made off with a bottle of Lucozade and a cake – admitted theft. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Not too many Silver Linings there, then…
