After a no expenses spared refurbishment, the legendary Brixton Jamm has now reopened and is offering the sort of musical excellence and party brilliance that such a historical and influential venue deserves. It all kicked off last Friday with Congo Natty curating a tribute night to Bob Marley where Big Narstie played an impromptu set, and was followed by a Gold Teeth summer hip hop BBQ last Saturday.

Brixton Jamm is well known for putting on sizzling live events, world music parties and dance specials. It is housed in a beautifully authentic and storied 18th century inn and is made up of a club and live party room, a drinking bar room and an outdoor open-air terrace that between them have hosted everyone from Massive Attack to Skepta, The Specials to Happy Mondays, as well as, famously, being the venue for the first ever Adele gig. There is plenty of musical history and mad stories contained within its vast and hallowed walls, then, and now many more will be made in this next exciting chapter.

With a penchant for bringing together diverse people from all over London and beyond, Brixton Jamm offers sun kissed outdoor clubbing intimate and sweaty raving and laid

back chatting and boozing, and has gone from being a traveller’s inn in the 18th century to Ye Old White Horse in the 19th century to now, a 21st century and truly unique, multi-purpose music venue.

The recent refurbishment has been undertaken by the creative team behind Night Tales and has placed a great focus on the all important details. As such Brixton Jamm’s newly refurbished Club/Live Room has been extended to host an extra 100 people, while the stage has been made larger for even more spectacular shows. Importantly, it also now boasts a brand new Martin Audio MLA Compact sound system. This, one of the best in the world, is the first install of its sort in the UK and is the rig used on Glastonbury’s pyramid stage – ‘nuff said.

The bar room has been stripped back to reveal original period features and details such as cornicing and original wooden floors and the space now has even more airy character and also boasts a fresh Martin Audio install. As well as this, some backstage extras have been added so that even more celebrated live acts can be welcomed in style.

Putting all these new changes through their paces is a brilliantly considered spread of events that touch on many diverse styles, sounds and scenes. Across summer Jamm will see acclaimed and expert promotions like Shut the Front Door, Rumpus, Good Life, Soundwave Croatia, Triple Cooked and We Are Balearic all bring their party know how, unique crowds and special headliners to the venue: these include the likes of US disco funk king Mayer Hawthorne, breakbeat legend and turntablist A Skillzanthemic house royalty in Felix B (Basement Jaxx) and Maxi Jazz (Faithless), underground talents like Jasper James, disco house duo Tiger & Woods, Wild Oats man K15 and Wherka plus dance institution Justin Robertson. We’ll also be treated to appearances from classic garage legends like Artful Dodger and a full summer sound system residency from Channel One, while special live shows from Lindstrom and the subversive Hackney Colliery Band bring their own sense of musical heat.
