The Old Truman Brewery is the former Black Eagle brewery complex, which has now been redeveloped into a home for creative businesses and eateries.
In particular, the long, rectangular courtyard that opens up on to Brick Lane and plugs into the Vibe Bar is worth a look.
On weekends, the wooden benches are overrun with elegantly dishevelled East End types, who have built up a thirst at the nearby local markets, and there’s a great selection of food and booze on offer.
There’s something about the venue, with it’s towering old industrial surroundings, which lends it an authenticity, particularly once the shadows lengthen and the sun starts to dip.
It’s a great spot to drink in London, so be sure to make a day of it out Spitalfields way.
