Former Liverpool striker David Bellamy, who now plays for his home team Cardiff was moved to tears at the final whistle.
“It’s just been a tough season, this championship just so tough,” Bellamy said after the game to the BBC.
“To be on top, to be one of two teams promoted [automatically], it’s just an achievement for us.”
Cardiff’s promotion would have been more easily secured had they managed to find a goal at the Cardiff City stadium, but instead they held on to the draw, with news trickling in from elsewhere that Milwall had taken the lead in south London against promotion chasing Watford, nullifying the Hornets’ chances of catching the Welsh club.
