During a radio interview, the presenter asked Lloyd if she would ever perform with Cheryl, who supported the teenager through the X Factor.

But in a show of what some might call disloyalty, Lloyd replied: “Maybe if she sings live with me.”

And when the interviewer asked whether this might prove difficult for Cheryl, Lloyd said: “Well it is nowadays, when you haven’t got the nifty little button to press!”

It didn’t take long for Cheryl to respond, via what has fast become the celeb world’s fave medium for mud-slinging: Twitter.

“Be Careful who you kick on your way up .. They kick you twice as hard on your way back down..  #unappreciationisugly ” tweeted the Geordie songstress.

Could the rift between mentor and protege escalate to catastrophic proportions, in a kind of Darth Vader/ Obi-Wan Kenobi face-off? Or will cheeky Lloyd back down and say sorry?
