Cheryl Cole’s American X Factor panel job could go to Rihanna or Katy Perry instead, sources have revealed.

“Everyone thinks Cheryl has the judging job on US X Factor in the bag. The truth is, nothing has been signed and the producers still aren’t convinced,” a friend of Cheryl’s boyfriend Derek Hough told The Sun.

He explained: “They are more keen to get a big US star like Katy or Rihanna on the panel – someone who will bring credibility to the show and who is already popular in the US.”

Cheryl Cole to be US X Factor judge

X Factor’s Gamu could be deported

X Factor boss Simon Cowell has been trying to convince the American producers Fox to take on Cheryl Cole for the judging role, but he yet hasn’t yet sealed the deal.

The source added: “Simon has been the only one pushing for her and trying to convince everyone that she’ll be a big hit.

But not even the bright trademark smile and experience of Simon Cowell has persuaded the Fox management team that Cheryl Cole is the right woman for the job.

The source said: “They want to see if the American public warm to her before she takes on such a high-profile role in one of the biggest shows on US TV.

“There have been lots of heated conversations and debates about it,” the source continued.

Cheryl Cole, however, has already started to prepare for the move to LA, and is said to have splashed out £2.2 million on a luxury flat near the X Factor studios.
