Tickets for Coldplay’s first UK tour in two years have gone on sale today.

The tour to plug the band's new album Mylo Xyloto will kick off at Glasgow's SECC on December 3 before moving onto Manchester's MEN Arena on December 4 and finishing up at London's O2 Arena on December 9.

Lead singer Chris Martin told The Sun that the new record, their first since 2008's Viva La Vida,  “is sort of a story – it's not quite a musical, but it's dangerously close."

He admitted to MTV that the unusual title “doesn't mean anything. We did kind of take a gun and shoot it right at our shoes.”

“It sort of has a nice appearance to it – with all those o's," he said.

The album, due out on October 24, features the band’s latest singles Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and Paradise plus a collaboration with pop diva Rihanna entitled Princess Of China.

Martin, who is married to Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow once admitted that Coldplay “will never be cool”  – but that won’t stop tickets for their tour selling like hotcakes.
