Toilets at the Delhi Commonwealth Games have reportedly been clogged by thousands of used condoms, flushed down by competitors.

The condoms were discovered when plumbers were called in to clear the toilets after athletes complained that they were blocked, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Games organisers had provided 8,000 free condoms in the village and apparently athletes have already got through half of them!

However as condoms are not biodegradable waste, they can choke toilets.

Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell was positive about the athlete’s condom frenzy.

“If that is happening, it shows that there is use of condoms and I think that is a very positive story. Athletes are being responsible,” he said.

“We all know that encouraging safe sex is a very important thing to do.”

It’s obviously not all work for athletes competing in big events. Here’s a breakdown of free condoms provided over the years.

Sydney Olympic Games 2000 – 90,000 free condoms
Athens Games 2004 – 130,000 free condoms
Beijing Games 2008 – 100,000 free condoms
Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 – 100,000 free condoms

Amazing they’ve still got the energy to compete…
