The Team Sky rider who navigated another tough 3 weeks, made it to the yellow jersey in Paris ahead of former team-mate Rigoberto Uran and Romain Bardet in third.
Only once was the 32 year-old in trouble, when he lost the top spot after stage 12, but reclaimed it by stage 14, on a tour where he never won a stage.
He now goes 2nd on the all-time list with 4 wins and will now attempt to join an illustrious group of cyclists to win a 5th Tour next season.
Before then though, Froome will attempt to become the first Briton to win the Vuelta and try to become only the third cyclist to do the double after Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault both done it over 40 years ago.
The Tour begins in Nimes, France on August 19 and finishes on 10 September in Madrid.
One of Froome’s closest rivals, Alberto Contador, himself a two times winner of the Tour de France as well three Vuelta’s and two Giro’s has announced that he will retire after this season’s Vuelta.
