Harry Potter superstar Daniel Radcliffe has revealed that he became “reliant” on alcohol at the height of his fame.

Speaking to GQ magazine, he said: "I became so reliant on (alcohol) to enjoy stuff”

"There were a few years there when I was just so enamoured with the idea of living some sort of famous person's lifestyle that really isn't suited to me."

Radcliffe, 21, admitted his drinking became a problem while working on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009. He went on to say that he gave up alcohol completely in August 2010.

"As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time – that doesn't work for me.

"I do that very unsuccessfully."

Radcliffe was just nine when he shot to fame in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. He is now worth an estimated £48m.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will open on Thursday. It is the final instalment in the eight-movie franchise.

JK Rowling has vowed not to write anymore Harry Potter books but launched “interactive experience” Pottermore.com to keep fans happy.

Radcliffe is currently starring on Broadway in the farce How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
