“Facebook used to be like a great party for all your friends where you can dance, drink and flirt. But now with your Mum, Dad and boss there the party becomes an anxious event full of potential social landmines,” said University of Edinburgh marketing fellow and author of the report, Ben Marder.

Worrying about people from work seeing embarrassing photos from your weekend, saying the wrong thing and inadvertently offending someone, these are the sort of things that are likely to contribute the FB-related stress, the report says.

Best thing to do is either limit your online friends to ones you’d happily call the same in the physical world, or stop caring what other people think.
