A fire has started at Footlocker on Brixotn Road – the sportswear shop that was attacked and set alight during last week's riots in south London.
As many as 40 firefighters were called to the blaze at 11pm last night
The fire, which began in the basement of the three-storey building, was put out just after 6am this morning.
On the night of August 7, looters set the shoe store store on fire and other shops, including Body Shop, Marks & Spencer, Currys, Halfords, phone shops and businesses in the area were attacked hours after a music festival finished
The cause of last night's fire was still unknown at this stage but the basement of the shop, which has offices above it, suffered 20 per cent damage.
The Metropolitan police, which has a station close by and
said that officers were in attendance, said there was no indication
that the fire was started by looters.
Fire crews are still at the scene damping down the store.
Atlantic Road has been closed between Brixton Road and Coldharbour Lane because of the fire and the Tube station remains shut.
