It took the 29-year-old an hour to reel in the whopper last Tuesday, which was so big it didn’t fit in the back his truck.

“The funny thing is, as I left the house to go out that night, I kissed my son and said ‘Daddy’s gonna catch up a big, big fish tonight,’ but I didn’t think it would be this big,” SFGate reported the man as saying.

In true American style, Polk barbecued the shark, according to the Daily News.

“We tried to revive the fish and send him back out, but he was too worn out to swim,” he said.

Makos are the fastest species of shark and can swim at speeds well over 40 miles an hour.
