However, would things still be as memorable almost 20 years later? Happily, the answer’s yes.

The grub:

My dining companion and I started with some Loaded Potato Skins – half with bacon pieces, half with mushroom. They were delightful; stuffed full of cheesy, fluffy mashed potato and covered with toppings. In fact, they were so satisfying we worried that our main courses would be overshadowed. How wrong we were.

The Cheeseburger Deluxe was a thing of beauty – the burger was tender, juicy and smothered with lush melted cheese. I opted for sweet potato fries – a good choice, as they were crispy, salty, and everything you want from a chip. My companion’s Veggie Fajita was also a smash; four soft tortillas accompanied by a huge plate of sizzling veg, served with sour cream and guacamole.

The desserts we ordered were so moreish we were both silenced for ten minutes. The Cookie Dough Cheesecake was rich, sweet, and so good I was miserable when it was over. My dining partner’s Apple Waffle Crunch – a cinnamon-dusted piece of heaven – was demolished without a word. He sighed when he finished it.

Behind the bar:

We both went for shakes (just for old times’ sake); the chocolate and Oreo creations are so thick you can stand a straw up in them, and lusciously creamy. I enjoyed a Red Velvet cocktail (fruity!) and a Bubblegum Daiquiri, and my companion went for a Royaltini, which is a seriously addictive mixture of vodka, blackberries, apple juice and Champagne.

Bill please:

Starters from £6, main courses from £10, desserts from £6, cocktails from £6, shakes from £3.

Verdict:

Just as tasty as I remember, and not just one for the kids –  huge portions of food so good you’ll soon be finding excuses to go back.
