Garufa
The scene: This intimate bistro-style Argentinian eatery has exposed brickwork dotted with vintage shots of Buenos Aires, with Buena Vista Social Club providing the background music. Diners were a mix of groups and couples, giving it a buzzy feel.
The grub: Beef, of course! We plumped for a mixed grill, a scrumptiously succulent meat feast of sirloin, rump and fillet steak, sausages and cheese, which arrived sizzling on a hot plate. The ice cream dessert was disappointing – just two scoops with no topping.
Behind the bar: An extensive Argentinian wine list. We opted for La Linda, a velvety red that complemented the meat nicely.
Bill please: Mixed grills to share from £15 per person.
Verdict: Lively atmosphere, smiley waiting staff and top-notch meat. Perfect for red-blooded carnivores who like a proper feed.
