Like something from a comedy crime caper, at about 8.50am this morning, an ambitious bandit allegedly stole a Peter’s ice cream truck parked on Hunter Street, Newcastle, and took off, sparking a chase south.
With averaging speeds of just 60km/h, it all ended at Lenola Crescent, Blue Haven, after the driver dumped the vehicle and ran, NSW Police Force said on its Facebook page.
A 45 year-old-man was arrested soon after and has been charged with ‘unlicensed for class, destroy damage property, police pursuit (Skye’s law), take and drive conveyance without consent of owner’.
Thankfully, the ice creams survived the ordeal.
