Halfway House

521 Garratt Lane, SW18 4SR

Rail: Earlsfield railway station

The scene: A refurbished Young’s establishment with its associated features – dim lights, heavy furniture and comfy couches. However, this gastropub feels delightfully lived-in, even tatty, thanks to its lively camp of punters. Jars of sweets for sale behind the bar are a playful twist and the staff are just as fun.

The grub: There’s quality British fare on the menu, with the steak and ale pie particularly tasty. Gourmet burgers, fish and chips and nachos also serve to satisfy a drinker’s appetite.

Behind the bar: A vast selection of lagers, bitters and ales on tap.

Bill please:
At £4.03 for a lager, this is not the cheapest place in London to down a pint. Bar snacks, however, ring in quite reasonably at under £3.

Verdict:
Step in if you like to be treated like an old friend.
