Eyewitnesses report seeing several people caught underneath, although fire crews attending the scene believe no-one is trapped.
Four people are being treated for injuries at the scene, after people reported at first hoardings and then scaffolding falling from the front of the Mango shop, which is being refitted.
The hoardings, which feature Kate Moss’s advertising campaign for the Spanish clothing giant, were being used to create a temporary wall to allow workmen to carry out the refurbishment.
