The Handsome Family (Loose)

Duo Brett (swooping melodies, fragile croon) and Rennie Sparks (otherworldly lyrics, semi-detached harmonies) celebrate 20 years of marriage with an album of, by their standards, conventional love songs.

The pair are at their most unnecessarily wayward on The Loneliness Of Magnets, which tries and fails to reinvent Brett as a surrealist. But A Thousand Diamond Rings and Little Sparrows are on safer, more country-tinged ground. Happy anniversary, folks.
