Brakes (Fatcat)
Founded as an offshoot of British Sea Power and Electric Soft Parade, Brakes made a better record than either of its parent bands have managed before or after 2005’s Give Blood.
Touchdown is rather less successful. The short and sharp bursts of aggressive indie-rock that highlighted the band’s debut still show up from time to time, but they take second billing to a series of rather dreary attempts to reinvent hazy, shoegazey pop for the 21st century. They don’t succeed.
