Ceri Subbe said that her brother, Gareth Williams, did not enjoy the “flash car competition and post-work drinking culture” of MI6.

She also told the hearing that her brother had been very cautious and would not have allowed anyone into his flat who had not been security-vetted first.

Williams’ decomposing remains were discovered in a holdall that had been locked from the outside and placed in the bath at his Pimlico flat (pictured).

Subbe added: “I think he was a country boy and the city life did not quite suit him. Also I think the job was not quite what he had expected. There was a lot more red tape than he was comfortable with.”
