Cooper, who was in the Hangover one and two movies, was People Magazine’s pick for 2011.

It might have had something to do with the 36-year-old’s blue eyes, alluring smile and all- American appeal.

“He’s more than just a good-looking guy,” People senior writer Alexis Chiu said today on Good Morning America.

“This guy speaks fluent French, he cooks … he rides a motorcycles, went to Georgetown, loves his mommy a lot and still opens the door for women.”

Cooper now adorns the sexiest man hall of fame with previously successful hunks, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and, most recently, Ryan Reynolds.

People has been running the sexiest man competition each year since 1985. The decision comes down to the magazine’s editors, with the winner gracing the cover.

The competition has become a pop-culture institution, usually doing wonders for the winners’ profile.

Mel Gibson, then the gritty star of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, was the inaugural cover hunk. The issue he appeared on sold almost 2 million copies and would propel the franchise into a pop culture phenomenon.

Honorable mentions in this year’s competition included Liam Hensworth, Chris Evans, Justin Timberlake and Tim McGraw among a host of others.

So, what makes the sexiest man?

“The person just has to have the total package,” Chiu explained.

By the numbers, 14  of the past Sexiest Men Alive holders have had brown hair. The most common eye color for Sexist Man Alive hunks is blue.
