Once voted Britain’s funniest man, the 59-year-old was taken into custody by detectives. Davidson strongly denies the allegations against him.

The star was arrested yesterday by the police investigating child abuse offences by Jimmy Savile. Davidson was taken to a London police station and questioned for hours about allegations that supposedly dated back 25 years.

Davidson’s solicitor said: “Two women have made allegations in respect of Jim that date back approximately 25 years,” reported Metro newspaper.

“The complainants were then in their mid 20s. Jim vigorously denies the allegations. He has not been charged with any offence.”

The Generation Game and Big Break star was rewarded an OBE in 2001 for his charity work and years of entertaining British troops overseas.

In October he entered into the Jimmy Savile debate. On his blog Davidson wrote:

“The Jimmy Savile witch hunt is going a bit silly now. We all are starting to speculate and accuse – even in jest. So no, I don’t know who’s next.

“Everyone has had the nod. Everyone is an expert.

“Just pick someone you don’t like and say it’s them.

“As odd as he was, Savile can’t defend himself.

“The bloke’s dead for God’s sake. Let’s move on.”

It’s believed that police spent four hours searching Davidson’s million pound Georgian home in Stockbridge, Hampshire. They left the property carrying evidence bags.

It’s understood that a replacement is being lined up to take his place on Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Another man was also arrested in relation to sexual offences the same day.

“A 53-year-old man was arrested at approximately 8am at an address in Hampshire and taken into custody locally,” said a Scotland Yard spokesman.
