Liam Neeson’s The Grey, an action survival thriller in which he plays one of a team of oil workers whose plane crash lands in the Alaskan wilderness forcing them to fend for themselves, has rocketed to the top of the box office in America.

The film, directed by Joe Carnahan (The A Team), took $20 million between Friday and Sunday.

Second spot at the box office went to Kate Beckinsale’s vampire actionner Underworld: Awakening, which took $12.5 million and was knocked in to silver position by The Grey, with Katherine Heigl comedy One for the Money, grabbing third spot with $11.8 million.
