The film star who is already on probation until 2014 for a necklace theft was detained after hitting a pedestrian with her car and leaving the scene.

Lohan was driving through an alley from Lower Manhattan’s Dream Hotel to the Maritime Hotel when she struck a 34-year-old man with her Porsche Cayenne.

One of the passengers in the Porsche got out of the car and checked for any damage, after this Lohan and others drove off and entered the hotel.

Meanwhile, the man who was struck by the car dialled 911.

The unnamed man was examined after being hit in the knee by Lohan’s car but was later released. There were no visible injuries.

Police arrested Lohan later that night as she was leaving the hotel for fleeing the scene of an accident.

“She was involved in a hit and run,” a police spokeswoman said.

The incident comes during a stretch of good behaviour after being released in March from a five-year probation due to a cocaine possession and drunk driving arrest in 2007.

The Mean Girls star was formally charged with a misdemeanour and released. While this offense is minor it still violates her informal probation for the theft of a necklace. The terms of her probation state that she must not break the law.

At the time of the sentencing Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner told Lohan: “It was never our goal to just put people in jail, we like to see change, and I think we’ve all seen that.”
