Commonwealth champion Perkins beat Njisane Nicholas Phillip of Trinidad to claim his bronze medal.

Perkins has been on good form and comfortably defeated the America’s Jimmy Watkins 2-0 in his men’s sprint quarter-final on Sunday. The Australian cyclist was also part of the men’s sprint team that finished fourth, just half a second behind Team GB, which took gold.

Perkins represented Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in his hometown, Melbourne and became the youngest ever Australian cyclist to win a medal at the event.

He rode for his country and won gold in the Men’s individual sprint event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
