Yorkshirewoman Adams, 29, won her fight against Bulgarian Stoyka Petrova, by an easy 16-7.
Adams is now team GB’s only hope of landing a medal in the the 2012 women’s boxing tournament. She is now assured a bronze after claiming her place in the semi-finals of the flyweight division.
Adams was a crowd pleaser from the start today, walking to the ring to Robbie Williams’ Let Me Entertain You.
Spectators watched with bated breath as Adams destroyed her opponent in the last round, throwing in an ‘Ali Shuffle’.
“I had to get a Ali shuffle in, it had to be done. I have watched so many of his videos, and thought I’d put a cheeky one in there,” said Adams.
Although Adams is guaranteed a gold, the Leeds boxer said she will be gunning for a higher pace on the Olympic podium.
“I’ve got the bronze medal in my back pocket but I want to go for a better colour,” she said.
Adams’s next fight is against Indian boxer Mary Kom, a five-time world champion.
“You’ve got to be special to win five world titles,” conceded Adams. But she remains confident:
“But I’ll have height and reach advantages and I’ll be using all those attributes. Whatever she does, I’m sure I’ll be able to match it,” she said.
