London Riviera, the five-month food and drink pop-up, has announced free open air theatre shows throughout August as part of the More London Free festival.
The award-winning theatre company Gods and Monsters Theatre presents an action-packed season every Wednesday to Sunday August 5 – 30.
On offer this year:
Captain Showoff! 18:00 – 19:30
Adapted from the Roman comedies of Plautus by Phil Willmott.
The family show invites you to a busy Roman town as everyone expects the return from war of the egotistical soldier, Milos Colossus. Things have changed since he left for battle and he’s in for a shock. Expect audience participation, sing-a-longs, wrong identities and slapstick galore as a colourful cast of cunning slaves, bold lovers and shrewd tricksters take full benefit of the disorder peace brings.
Hecuba and the Trojan Women
20:00 – 21:30
Adapted from the Greek tragedies of Euripides by Lisa Kuma.
As the skies darken so does our story. In some of the most potent theatre written, Euripides drives spellbinding stories of the once mighty Queen Hecuba and her daughters as they face the terror of defeat, slavery and the fall of Troy. This new adaptation reverberates strongly, as the ruthless use of women as collateral damage in war, even today remains an urgent issue.
