Readers described Australia’s capital of cool – sorry Sydneysiders, we’re talking about Melbourne – as one of the classiest cities in the world with an “abundance of parks and fabulous public art”, and called Melbournians a “friendly bunch,” famous for their “wonderful sense of humour.”

Auckland was described as a “clean, youthful, adventurous, beautiful” city and the “ideal starting place” for seeing New Zealand.

Sydney was equal fifth with Dublin, and we urge you to spare a thought for Johannesburg, which was voted the unfriendliest city in the world.
