The officer was found at North Woolwich police station, east London, on Sunday.
The London Ambulance Service attended the man, believed to have been aged in his thirties and working within the Aviation Security Command at London City Airport, but he was pronounced dead 20 minutes later.
A spokesman said that the officer’s next of kin had been informed. The man is yet to be formally identified, and it is understood that the force is not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.
