A cobra that went missing from the Bronx Zoo in New York City turned up on Twitter as @BronxZoosCobra and has amassed over 109,000 followers.

The deadly Egyptian cobra went missing from the zoo’s reptile house on Saturday. The snake apparently began tweeting on Monday and had racked up an impressive following by Tuesday afternoon.

Tweets from the articulate cobra included:

“Holding very still in the snake exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. This is gonna be hilarious!”

“A lot of people are asking how I ? ? can tweet with no access to a computer or fingers. Ever heard of an iPhone? Duh.”

“On top of the Empire State Building! All the people look like little mice down there. Delicious little mice.”

“Getting my morning coffee at the Mudtruck. Don’t even talk to me until I’ve had my morning coffee. Seriously, don’t. I’m venomous.”

@BronxZoosCobra listed her location as “Not at the Bronx Zoo” which may not be strictly accurate. According to the zoo (possibly trying to stem public panic), the Egyptian cobra is most likely to be hiding out somewhere in the reptile house.

Bronx Zoo director Jim Breheny said that as the cobra is less than 2 ft. long and pencil thin finding her was proving difficult despite the zoo setting trap baited with live mice.

“Right now, it’s the snake’s game. At this point, it’s just like fishing; you put the hook in the water and wait,” Breheny said in a statement.

New Yorkers are understandably worried at the thought of a deadly snake in their midst, a fact that wasn’t lost on @BronxZoosCobra.

“It’s getting pretty cold out. I think it’s probably time to crash. Oh look, an apartment window someone left open just a crack. Perfect!” read one tweet.
