The unfortunate driver was on his way to the local hypermarket for a shopping trip in his Renault Laguna when pressure on the brakes appeared to fail and increase the car’s speed.

Lecerf, 36, whose car was adapted with specialist controls for disabled drivers, said that his “life flashed before his eyes…I just wanted it to stop.”

After alerting the police on his phone, who created an escort, the vehicle eventually ran out of petrol after travelling around 125 miles and ending up in Belgium. His terrifying ordeal lasted an hour.

During the journey he was in touch with a Renault technician, who was unable to come up with a solution.

Lecerf’s lawyer Ghislain Fey has stated that their client intends to file a complaint to the manufacturers for ‘endangering the lives of others.’
