The visa is available to many nationalities including British and Australian and does away the previous need to apply in advance which could often be an arduous task!

There are forty-four border posts that can issue the visa including the international airport at Maputo as well as land border posts from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

The visa starts at around £40 for a single entry tourist visa.

You will need documentation to prove you are staying no longer than 30 days ie an plane ticket onwards and confirmation of a place to stay ie a hotel booking confirmation plus 6 months on your visa.

In light of the visa changes, Acacia Africa is discounting selected northbound and southbound departures on its 14 day Mozambique and Zimbabwe Explorer camping overland tours by 15%, if booked before 31 May.

The list of locations includes the laid-back, hippy resort town of Tofo — famous for its large whale shark population and sightings of rare marine creatures such as dugongs and turtles, and Vilanculos, the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago – both sites offering excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities.

A major highlight, a dhow sailing trip to the archipelago’s third largest island, Magaruque Island features on the tour, the day complete with a delicious seafood lunch served under its shady palm fringes. Clients have the opportunity to enjoy the island at leisure and go snorkelling (basic snorkelling equipment and the park fees are included), swimming or hiking to the ruins of a 19th century fort.
