The naked man had stolen a Hummer at gunpoint, and abandoned the vehicle following a long pursuit by police officers in southern California.
The late night chase ended in Whittier, when the man, who had earlier stolen the giant 4×4 from a limousine driver at gunpoint, was apprehended by the dog after running from the vehicle with his hands up.
The scene unfolded on camera, which was being held aloft in a helicopter above. Smoke could be seen billowing from the tyres of the vehicle just before the thief decided to continue on foot.
The clever dog quickly captured the man, who was in his birthday suit, until officers could restrain him.
It was not immediately clear why the man was naked at the time of his arrest.
