Naked Rambler Stephen Gough has been imprisoned for 657 days just one minute after being released from jail.

The 52-year-old was found guilty of breaching the peace and being in contempt of court – he was arrested outside Perth Prison for stripping off as soon as he was released from serving a 21-month sentence.

Gough, who has spent most of the last 10 years in jail, appeared naked in court and was found guilty of contempt of court because of his nudity.

The former Royal Marine claimed that arresting him for walking around naked was a breach of his human rights and his right to freedom of expression, a defence that was rejected by Sheriff Michael Fletcher.

Sheriff Fletcher said: "The court expects people to come here in a decent state of dress. That has been explained to you in the past. I gave you the opportunity to dress yourself."

Gough said: "What I am doing is based on my belief about what I am and what I am is not indecent. Ordinary people have prejudices and intolerances."

Gough became known as the Naked Rambler after he trekked naked from Lands End to John O'Groats. Gough did the hike again in 2005 with his girlfriend Melanie Roberts (pictured).
