Three of the alleged mass killer’s former pals told his trial that they had wondered whether Breivik was gay due to him having a nose job and his increasingly feminine grooming routine.

One of the friends, who has been granted anonymity, said: ‘He used make-up, powder, those kinds of things, and he explained that as being “metrosexual”. He made reference to David Beckham being that at the time.’

The Norwegian mass killer’s life “fell apart” after a failed relationship with a Belarusian internet date left him struggling with his sexuality, his friends told the court.

“That was perhaps his last attempt at dating a girl like the other boys did,” his best friend’s ex-girlfriend told the court.

All the friends agreed that until 2006, the man who killed 77 people in Oslo and Utoya had been a sociable, normal friend.

But when he moved in with his mother, he became reclusive, and became addicted to online gaming, while his ideology became more extreme.

The girl said blamed Breivik’s gaming for his murderous rampage.

“The way I understood it is that he had played so much that that was why everything fell apart.”
