New Zealand’s rookie bobsleigh team have
finished fourth in their first competition.

They finished behind three American teams in the Americas World
Cup series race in Park City, Utah, posting a credible time of one
minute 42 seconds.

New Zealand skeleton athlete Tionette Stoddard also finished
second and fourth in her races at the event, while Katharine Eustace
was eighth and ninth, and Lou Corcoran finished 10th in one of the
races.

The bobsleighers’ result commanded most attention though.

The team of Sam Higgie, Chris Donaldson, Tom Davie and leader
Alan Henderson were formed this year with a view of qualifying for
the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada.

Park Utah represented the first in a series of races for the
team, with more to follow at Calgary and Lake Placid in the next six
weeks.

Competing in the Americas World Cup series is necessary to
qualify for the world championships in Lake Placid in February.
