The King’s Speech and Colin Firth were this year’s big Oscar winners at the 83rd Academy Awards. The British film about King George VI won four Oscars and was named Best Picture while star Firth landed the Best Actor gong.

Accepting the award, Firth joked: “I have a feeling my career’s just peaked.”

He then thanked “all the people who have been rooting for me back home” and his wife Livia for “putting up with my fleeting illusions of royalty”.
