The four metre-long beast had been causing all kinds of problems for the local community of Palumpa, about 240km south-west of Darwin.

“We had a report the other day that there was a large crocodile there that was menacing the kids,” Senior wildlife ranger Tommy Nichols told ABC.

The croc has now been cornered, captured and shot. Its demise was captured in this striking image.

It is the second giant croc to have been killed in Northern Territory in the last two weeks after another problem-croc was caught near Arnhem Land.
