A 25-year-old Russian man, Alexander Kuptsov, held four people hostage in a locked college classroom in the town of Astrakhan last Thursday, armed with a fake gun and explosives.
“His only demand was a pizza and Sprite,” police spokesman Pyotr Rusanov said.
After the bizarre demand for junk food was met, he did try to bargain further, requesting a car and 50,000 rubles. ($1,625AU)
After hours of negotiation with police, he finally released the hostages unharmed and is being held for questioning.
