Re-releases, exclusives, b-sides and picture discs will all feature heavily in stockists shelves for the big day on Saturday April 16.
London will be supporting the day with shops across the Capital contributing with instore gigs and plenty of giveaways.
In Rough Trade’s original shop in Talbot Road, you can expect to see ex-Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, Everything But The Girl’s Ben Watt and ex Suede guitarist-come-producer, Bernard Butler all performing. Meanwhile at its sister shop – Rough Trade East in Brick Lane, customers will be treated to DJs all-day with Glen Hansard and David Holmes.
One of the busiest places to be on Saturday, as most years are, will be at Berwick Street in Soho. A plethora of shops including Sister Ray, Reckless Records, Intoxica, Phonica Records and Sounds of the Universe, will be stocking plenty of exclusives and goody bags.
A ‘Pitchblack Playback’ takes place at the Soho Hotel. Where you can hear Ian Brown’s solo album ‘Solarized’ getting a special reissue for Record Store Day.
Flashback Records will have all day fun across 3 of its shops. Islington, Crouch End and Shoreditch will feature acts such as – The Franklys, Dead Coast and The Bin Bags.
South London will have a DJ party on Saturday. Pop Brixton will feature Container Records finest on the big day.
There will be something for everyone – if you’re there early enough on Saturday morning. From the late David Bowie, you can buy a double re-release with a 12” picture disc of The Man Who Sold the World.
Or maybe for pop fans, a 12” vinyl copy of Where Are U Now featuring Skrillex and Diplo with Justin Bieber.
Other contributions come from Florence and The Machine, Pete Doherty of The Libertines, Muse, Ezra Furman, Guy Garvey, Grace Jones….and Alan Partridge. There really is something for everyone.
Over 250 record labels have included material this year, which will serve over 25,000 fans in shops. The popularity in vinyl has increased and due to Record Store Day sales have risen from 75,000 in 2008 to just over 2 million units in 2015.
