Brand had won an award at the GQ Men of the Year awards last night at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, when he took to the stage and spoke about Hugo Boss, the sponsor of the event, and the firm’s links to the Nazis.

“If any of you know a little bit about history and fashion you’ll know Hugo Boss made the uniforms for the Nazis,” he said after accepting his gong.

“But they did look fucking fantastic, let’s face it, when they were killing people on the basis of their religion and sexuality.”

GQ editor Dylan Jones is said to have been unimpressed by Brand’s comments, leading to the comedian being thrown out of the event shortly afterwards.

Brand though was not content to leave it there, and continued the conversation on Twitter afterwards, saying:

“GQ editor: What you did was very offensive to Hugo Boss. Me: What Hugo Boss did was very offensive to the Jews.”
