The Irish based airline, famed as much for its cheeky outspoken chief executive Michael O’Leary as it is cheap air travel, is to increase the amount of aircraft it has from 270 to 305. As a result, it will be hiring pilots, cabin crew and sales and marketing staff as its employee base swells by 10%.
O’Leary has spoken of his plans to expand the airline and its reach, targeting routes across Europe with new bases opening in Billund, in Denmark, Wroclaw, in Poland, Palma, in Spain, Paphos, in Cyprus, and Manchester.
It is not specified where the majority of its new jobs will be but a spokeswoman for Ryanair has said some of them will be in the UK.
O’Leary has frequently courted controversy – but, of course, publicity too – for his industry-shaking ideas to cut the cost of air travel. These have included suggestions such as charging people to pay for going to the loo, and doing away with seats all together.
