The eggs were then fertilised to create baby mice, who in turn gave birth to mice naturally.
It is hoped that in the future the technique could be used to help infertile couples to have their own children.
The team at Kyoto University took skin cells and ‘reprogrammed’ them used stem cells into eggs before creating an ovary to surround the eggs.
Once these developed they were fertilised and implanted into a female mouse.
The baby mice were born healthy and were able to reproduce normally.
