Talk title: Priorities of Survival
Speaker’s name: Scott Heffield
Company: Bear Grylls Survival Academy
Website: www.beargryllssurvivalacademy.com
Why do you love to travel?
This is simple for me, I love the mountains and the mountains don’t come to me!
Who would be your ideal travel partner and why?
Sir Ernest Shackleton is my ideal travel partner because: I am always having mini epics and I need someone as inspirational as him to pull me through, his story of survival against all odds is not only inspirational and also unequalled.
What was your favourite destination last year and why?
Nepal (Everest Region) – because on this occasion I travelled with just one climbing partner which gave us the freedom to climb wherever we wanted, away from the crowds and in good form
Describe the most unusual situation you’ve found yourself in while travelling?
Whilst acclimatising in Russia in the Caucasus Range of mountains, I was climbing at around 4000 metres on a snow and ice route in near white out conditions, ice, snow, wind, low temperature when two Russian Policeman appeared from the crag and asked to see our passports and papers.
Name two up-and-coming destinations for 2013 and why?
New York – to talk about Bear Grylls projects & Greenland as I am going to explore the high mountains for the first time.
What’s the one thing you can’t travel without and why?
Cheesy as it sounds, I have a neckerchief which has been with me on every major climb that I have attempted in the last 10 years. On a more practical side, and with the need to keep in touch with clients, family members and up to date weather forecast’s is my solar power monkey
