The young tourist received a serious bite to his calf by a black-tip reef shark.

Paramedic Brad Lawson said that they boy was pulled to safety by his father.

“He was actually on the beach, just in the water wading near deep water and he said he actually saw the shark or he saw something and the next minute it bit him and Dad got him out of the water,” said Lawson.

“The child was removed from the water by his father and presented to the medical centre, where he was treated by a registered nurse.”

The boy is coping well with the ordeal.
