A taste of the world

The mix of Chinese, Malay and Indian backgrounds that make up Singapore’s population mean the country’s cuisine is a vibrant mix of flavours and styles. The best way to experience it is to head to Chinatown, the Arab Quarter or Little India and eat at one of the restaurants there for an authentic meal.

Booze it up

Despite Singapore’s reputation as a staid, conservative city, there are plenty of bars and clubs in which to have a drink. The best places to try are alongside the river at Boat Quay and Chinatown. Drinks are relatively expensive, so head out earlyish, before 8pm, to take advantage of the many happy hours.

The Singapore Sling

The iconic Singapore Sling cocktail has become world famous. Created at the famous Raffles Hotel in the 1910s, it’s a mix of gin, cherry brandy, and Benedictine – give it a try.
