His royal Mozza, former singer with The Smiths and successful solo artist in his own right, is rarely afraid to stick his oar in and cause some upset.
In an interview with New Zealand’s 3News, where Morrissey is currently on tour for the first time in 20 years, he said “It wasn’t because of two DJs in Australia that this woman took her own life, it was the pressure around her…the Palace and Clarence House”
He spoke about Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, placing the blame with her “She feels no shame about the death of this woman, she’s saying nothing about the death of this poor woman. The arrogance of the British royals is absolutely staggering.”
“Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy? I mean morning sickness already? So much hoo haw and then suddenly as bright as a button as soon as this poor woman dies she’s out of hospital? It doesn’t ring true.” he told the interviewer – although Kate’s condition has been described as hyperemesis gravidarum, a more serious form of the affliction.
It’s hardly the first time the Manchester singer has voiced an opinion on the royal family. He told US interviewers this year he considered them to be “arrogant, horrible dictators”. In March this year, the singer gave We Hate Will and Kate t-shirts to his band to wear onstage in Argentina.
