The woman who has – been identified only as Yeraldina – claimed that drug traffickers in Colombia forced her to undergo the surgery required to implant the class A drug under her breasts.

Having aroused suspicion on a routine search, the woman was given a body search by Spanish authorities at Barcelona’s El Prat airport where a bloody rag was found to be covering barely healed wounds under both bosoms.

Yeraldina tried to throw police off the scent by claiming she had only just undergone breast augmentation surgery but she was sent to a hospital to be checked anyway where the drugs were discovered.

The woman “had two breast implants containing cocaine implanted in her. She had two open cuts under each of her breasts,” a police spokesperson said, and also claimed that the surgery to remove the cocaine may well have saved her life.

“She was in a very bad state when she arrived. She said she was not in any pain but the wounds looked very bad,” he said.

It is the first time Spanish police officers have ever come across drugs being smuggled inside of a woman’s breasts, although they are quite used to weird and wonderfully inventive drug smugglers.

Recently Spanish officers have come across cocaine stashed in replica sculptures by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, the “plaster cast” protecting a man’s broken leg, an entire 42-piece crockery set and even moulded into the shape of designer shoes.

Seems somebody out there is trying extra hard to get a little snow into Spain, and just in time for Christmas too. How thoughtful of them.
